Attention Optimist Club Members!

If your club is planning to participate in the Michigan District Essay Contest, please note that the deadline for clubs to register with the District is November 30, 2024. This is a fantastic opportunity to encourage young writers and thinkers within our communities!

Key Details:

  • Contest Theme: Each year, the contest features a specific theme that participants need to address in their essays. This year’s theme: “How Optimism Has
    Paved My Road to Success”
    .
  • Eligibility: The contest is open to students under the age of 19 as of Oct 1, 2024, who have not yet graduated high school
    • Residence: Student must reside in the State of Michigan, Lower Peninsula
    • Language: The essay must be written in English only
  • Award Recognition: Winners at the club level can advance to the district competition, with opportunities for scholarships up to $2,500 and recognition at the Spring District Gathering in May 2025.

Steps for Registration:

  1. Confirm your club’s participation: Discuss and gather interest from your club members

  3. Be Mindful of Deadlines: Not only do you need to register with the District by November 30, 2024, but be sure to set internal deadlines for your club’s activities leading up to the contest. The deadline to submit the winning essays to the District is February 28, 2025.
