As we enter the new year, it’s time to mark your calendars with some critical deadlines for Michigan District Optimist Clubs. The following events offer incredible opportunities for young people to shine, and for club officers to ensure they’re meeting important training requirements. Here’s your 3 Under 3 for the week:
1. District Essay Contest Winner Submission – Deadline: February 28
We’re kicking things off by celebrating the amazing young writers in your clubs! The District Essay Contest is right around the corner, and it’s time to submit your club’s first-place essay winner. Each club must send their winning entry, along with the required entry fee, to the District Essay Chair. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to showcase these talented students on a larger stage.
Make sure you submit by February 28 to meet the deadline. For more details and the submission link, head over to the District Essay Contest Form on the website. Let’s make sure these students get the recognition they deserve!
2. District Oratorical Contest – Participation Deadline: February 15
Public speaking is an essential skill that can open doors for young people. The District Oratorical Contest is the perfect opportunity for students to build and showcase those skills. Clubs must submit their participation to the District Oratorical Chair, Tina Johnson, by February 15. This contest allows students to practice their speaking abilities in front of a larger audience and compete for top honors at the district level.
Don’t miss out—submit your participation to Oratorical@MichiganOptimists.org on time and give your students the platform they deserve!
3. Club Officer Training – Deadline: March 31, 2025
For all current club officers, here’s a reminder: In order to comply with International, Club, and District policy (ICD)-135 requirements, all training must be completed by March 31, 2025. Completing this training ensures that you are meeting the necessary standards and prepared to lead your club successfully in the coming year.
To get started, visit the Optimist Institute, where you can access the required courses. If you need any help, don’t worry—I will be hosting a tutorial session on Thursday, February 6 at 7:00 PM. This is a great chance to ask questions and get guidance. Be sure to register for this event HERE.
Keep Track of These Dates!
These are the three key deadlines every Optimist Club should be aware of right now. Make sure to submit all necessary documents and complete your training on time to stay in good standing. These contests and requirements provide an excellent opportunity to engage young people, encourage growth, and strengthen the leadership in your club.
Let’s make 2025 a year of success for both our students and our officers! Stay on top of these deadlines, and keep fostering optimism in your community.
