A Swing for a Cause: Golf Outing at The Royal Golf Course

by | Aug 28, 2024 | District News

On a sunny and warm July 31st, The Royal Golf Course in Canadian Lakes, MI, was the scene of an exciting event that brought together golf enthusiasts and Optimist Club members for a day of friendly competition and camaraderie. The Mecosta County Optimist Club hosted a golf outing to benefit the Optimist International Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting youth and community service projects.

The event was a resounding success, thanks in large part to the enthusiasm and dedication of everyone involved. The theme for the day was the Olympics, which was reflected in the vibrant decorations and the assortment of prizes that awaited the participants. The golfers, despite the heat, persevered through 18 challenging holes in a scramble format, demonstrating not only their love for the game but also their commitment to the cause.

After the round of golf, participants were treated to a well-deserved taco bar and a delicious cake, providing the perfect ending to a day of hard work and fun. The camaraderie and spirit of the event were palpable, with everyone enjoying the opportunity to relax, share stories, and celebrate the success of the outing.

Special thanks are due to several individuals and organizations who made the day possible. District Foundation Chair Debra Berry, along with Theresa Jarrett and Maggie Rollinger, played crucial roles in organizing and assisting with the event, ensuring everything ran smoothly from start to finish. Their hard work and dedication were evident in the success of the day.

The event also received generous support from various sponsors. A special mention goes to the Optimist Clubs of Holland, Grand Rapids, and Roseville for their hole sponsorships, which helped make the day a financial success as well. Additionally, the Mecosta County Optimist Club was honored to welcome out-of-town guests, including Optimists Harry Margo and Tom Longhway, who traveled to participate and show their support.

The golf outing not only provided a day of enjoyment and sport but also raised important funds for the Optimist International Foundation, which will go towards supporting the many youth and community service projects they undertake. Events like these are a testament to the power of community and the shared goal of making a positive difference in the lives of young people.

As the sun set on The Royal Golf Course, participants left with smiles on their faces, satisfied with a day well spent and proud of the impact they helped create. The Mecosta County Optimist Club and all those involved look forward to future events where they can continue to support their community and the Optimist International Foundation.

Stay tuned for more updates on upcoming events and how you can get involved with the Mecosta County Optimist Club and their mission to bring out the best in youth, community, and themselves.
