Time Left in May
There is still time for you to get registered in Healthy Michigan for May
How It Works
Registration
1. Beginning any time after March 31, click the link for the “CHW- Healthy Mitten registration”.
2. Register yourself or your immediate household. Start a virtual team for your club, your children’s friends, or your family no matter where they live, etc. Everyone is welcome. If you sponsor someone who is not yet an Optimist, register them under your club.
3. Each person on your team must choose one of these exercise events: 5K (3.1 miles) walk or run, a Marathon (26.2 miles) walk, run or ride, or a 50-mile run or bike ride. If you are a team, you do not need to agree on one. Every person can choose their own event.
4. Keep track of your individual distance throughout the month.
5. At the end of the month fill out the online form with your total as an individual or if you have a team the total distance traveled. To get the total, add the individual distance of all team members together. Even if you fall short of your goal, please keep track of your accomplishment and submit it. We need to celebrate every victory no matter what size!
6. On or before the last day of each month, send the form to your club secretary and the CHW email.
7. Every participant who registers and sends in the form will receive a participation certificate.
8. On the 10th day of the month following, a random drawing will be held from all entries submitted and the winner will receive a special prize.
This event will be repeated for an unlimited number of months. The goal is to develop healthy exercise habits and draw others to join you to learn about how we as Optimists have worked together to improve our communities for over 100 years.
How this will benefit the Childhood Health & Wellness program?
1. It will allow us to teach by example with simple ways to get healthier.
2. It will draw attention to us as Optimists and we can share the reason for what we are doing
3. When we are ready to announce the new date for the 5K Run/Walk, your club and your community will have trained to participate and have a great time.
We will also ask you to use the new Facebook page Facebook.com/MightyMichiganOptimists to post photos as you participate in this event or any other healthy activity like cooking healthy, indoor exercises such as yoga or weight training. Posting photos of whatever you are doing to promote healthy living will be a great photo opportunity! The photo of the week will get a special shout out!

This has been a month full of growth and change for the Childhood Health & Wellness team. Hot on the heels of our very successful fundraising dinner and wine pairing event, we had the plans in place to begin registration for the 5K Run/Walk in Farmington. Then came the virus. Out of abundant concern and desire to protect the health and wellness of all, we determined that the plans had to change. We are in the beginning stages of working to secure an alternative date, but currently, that is a bit uncertain. However, we are Optimists and we will do whatever we can to bring out the best in youth, our communities and ourselves.
