Happy day to all of you Michigan District Optimists!
If you attended the Q3 conference at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, you were treated to a wonderful day. Over 140 Optimists, parents, JOI members, Scouts, families, and contestants packed the room for a day of learning, community in- volvement, heart-felt speeches and essays from talented youth and more. If you missed it, plan to be in attendance next year!
As I look into the next few months, I see many opportunities Optimists to grow, learn, encourage, and support each other and the youth in our communities. Kids have the summer off, as do many educators. However, most parents do not. What can your club do to provide a fun opportunity for families to interact together or possibly even an opportunity for the kids to experience something new during the day while their parents are at work? You could reach out to a local day camp pro- gram and volunteer to do any number of large and small things that could have a positive impact on the children. You could lead an activity, serve lunch, bring a snack, or inspire a craft project- just a few ideas. No act of service is too small.
As I consider how I may have a positive impact on our district this summer, I am inspired to participate in the club and zone events that you have scheduled. Please let me know when your events are happening and how I could help you. I will do my best to be there! Whatever you do, please take photos at your events, and send them to mmyerssomi@gmail.com because we want to include them in the Q4 edition of Optiviews to celebrate all the great things that you do!
The Michigan District Convention will take place on August 25-27 at the Crowne Plaza Lansing West. Plan for an overnight stay because the big fun begins at the dinner on Saturday night! Food, fun, music, recognition, dancing, and more are scheduled for the evening. Details and registration will be available on the https:// MichiganOptimists.org website by June 15th.
