Dear Michigan Optimists,
As we embark on the 2024-2025 Optimist year, our focus will be directed towards three pivotal objectives: enhancing our marketing strategies, boosting membership engagement, and energizing our district events. In terms of internal marketing, we will continue to encourage clubs to contribute articles to our district website, and we will broaden this initiative to encompass all our social media platforms. Stay tune for our bi-weekly emails, where you will see a snipit of club and district news and a video message from me; the Governor’s “3 Under 3”. For external marketing efforts, we are thrilled to announce that from mid-October through November, a prominent Optimist billboard will be displayed in downtown Lansing, showcasing our commitment to the community.
The Membership Engagement Committee is set to take a proactive approach by conducting “boots on the ground” initiatives. This involves identifying clubs that have experienced stagnant or declining membership over the past three years. By collaborating closely with these clubs and engaging with other zone leaders, we aim to strategize and implement tailored events that will invigorate participation and foster a sense of community within our organization. This hands-on approach is designed to ensure that every club feels supported and empowered to thrive.
In a significant shift in our communication strategy, I have signed an “Executive Order” on October 1, which eliminates the use of the terms “Conferences,” “Conventions,” and “Meetings” from all district communications, both verbal and written. Instead, we will adopt more engaging terminology such as “Gatherings,” “Summits,” and “Events.” To kick off this new direction, we are excited to announce our Fall Gathering, scheduled for November 15-16, 2024, at the Crowne Plaza in Auburn Hills. This event promises to be a fantastic opportunity for networking, learning, and celebrating our shared mission as Optimists. Registration and hotel room reservations are now available on our website.
