As we close out the third quarter of the 2024–2025 Optimist year, we are proud to reflect on the incredible work we’ve done to “Bring Out the Best in Our COMMUNITIES – Part 2. This past quarter has been a testament to
the passion, dedication, and community spirit that defines the Michigan District Optimists.
Our Spring District Gathering at Saginaw Valley State University was a highlight of the quarter, where we showcased the very best of our youth through our District Essay and Oratorical Contests. Congratulations to all the contestants and a heartfelt thank you to those who made it happen: Theresa Mills, Scholarship & Programs Chair, Tina Johnson, Oratorical Chair, and Ilene Harmon-McGough, Essay Chair.
Your commitment ensured the contests were a resounding success, and your efforts were appreciated by the more than 60 Optimists who attended the event. Attendees also benefited from engaging Brainstorming Sessions, valuable updates on our various district programs, and our discussion panel.
We were honored to have Dr. George Grant Jr., President of SVSU, deliver an inspiring keynote address. His message reminded us how deeply our Optimist mission resonates within the communities we serve—and how much our work matters.
We also celebrated the momentum from our pilot Membership Rebate Incentive. Several clubs participated, welcoming over 17 new members who each engaged in at least three club events or gatherings. Each participating club received $70 per new member—a meaningful boost to support continued service
and programs.
As we step into the final quarter of this Optimist year, our focus shifts to the last part of our mission: “Optimists Bring Out the Best in OURSELVES.”
This quarter, we’ll celebrate the accomplishments of our clubs and recognize the incredible difference each member makes—not just in their communities, but within their own personal growth and leadership journeys.
