Welcome back to another “The Governor’s 3 Under 3“! This is where Governor Sean Mueller, will address three important topics in under three minutes. Let’s get started!
Optimist International Oratorical Contest
Do you know a student who has a powerful story of perseverance and hope? Perhaps a time when optimism helped them push through challenging moments? If so, the Optimist International Oratorical Contest could be their perfect opportunity to share that journey with the world!
This year’s theme is “How Optimism Has Guided Me Through Trying Times.” Students under 19 who are still in school are invited to participate. The contest offers a chance to win scholarships, improve public speaking skills, and inspire others with their story.
Entering is easy—students simply need to submit their speech to a local Optimist Club. But don’t wait too long! Most contests will take place by late March 2025. Let’s help these young voices build confidence, make a difference, and showcase the power of optimism. Visit the Michigan District website to find a participating club near you. The journey to becoming an inspiring speaker starts today!
Club Officer Training Deadline
Attention, all current club officers! Don’t forget—all training must be completed by March 31, 2025 to meet the International, Club, and District policy (ICD)-135 requirement for Honor Club status.
A monthly report is sent to both Governor Sean and the District Leadership Development Chair, so make sure you’re on the list of officers who’ve completed their training.
To get started, visit the Optimist Institute to access the required courses. There’s a step-by-step guide available on the Michigan District website to help you navigate the process.
OIF Club Grant Program
Is your Optimist Club looking to launch a new project that can make a real impact? The Optimist International Foundation’s (OIF) Club Grant Program is here to help!
Any Optimist Club can apply for a grant of $250 to $1,000 to fund a new project in the community. Your project must take place between April 2025 and March 2026, and your club will need to match the funds and report the results.
Remember, the grants are for one year only and are available to clubs that are current with their dues. If you need assistance raising funds, consider the Pass-Through Program, which helps secure donations from local businesses and foundations.
Important Dates to Remember:
- Applications are now open at oifoundation.org
- March 21, 2025: Applications must be received in the St. Louis office (NOT the PO Box!)
- May 16, 2025: Winners will be notified.
Ready to make a difference in your community? Apply today for the OIF Club Grant Program and turn your ideas into action!
