The Michigan District Optimists proudly recognized the winners of this year’s District Essay Contest at the Spring District Gathering, held at Saginaw Valley State University.
The event brought together Optimist Club members and students from across the state to celebrate youth achievement and the power of the written word. This year’s essay contest theme encouraged students to reflect, write, and share their unique perspectives in a meaningful way.
Rebecca Berry, representing the Plymouth-Canton Optimist Club, earned 1st Place honors for her outstanding essay. Hailing from Plymouth-Canton, Michigan, Rebecca was in attendance at the ceremony and received her award, which was generously sponsored by Jan Oord-Graves, current Optimist International President and Past Michigan District Governor.

Noah Prince of Southfield, Michigan, and the Southfield-Lathrup Village Optimist Club, was awarded 2nd Place. Noah also attended the event to accept his award, funded by dedicated Optimist member Stephan Staph Jr.

3rd Place went to Azharan Pandit from Saginaw, Michigan, representing the Saginaw Optimist Club. Azharan’s award was sponsored by Optimist member Teri Davis, whose continued support highlights the spirit of encouragement that defines the Optimist mission.
The Gathering served as a testament to the District’s commitment to fostering literacy, leadership, and confidence among young people. Congratulations to all the winners and participants who shared their voices and inspired their communities.
